Basic Overview

Question & Response

Q: Why are you closed during the day?

R: We are all volunteers and have other jobs, so the hostel is closed during the day.

Q: How long can I stay at the Hostel?

R: Our policy allows a stay of up to 5 days. Extended stay requests beyond the 5-day limit will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to house parent approval. Please notify us as soon as possible if
you would like to extend your stay.

Q: What is a chore? Why do you expect me to do one?

R: The hostel operates on communal living principles, meaning both volunteer staff and guests share responsibilities. Everyone contributes to help keep the place running smoothly.

Q: Do I need to make an advanced booking?

R: From October 1 till the end of February all reservations need to be made 48-hours in advance.

Q: I made a reservation and need to change my dates. What should I do?

R: Most of the time, date changes are not a problem. Just give us a call or send us an email.

Q: Am I guaranteed the room I booked?

R: We will do our best to accommodate the room you booked, but please understand that you're entering a communal setting. To ensure everyone has a comfortable experience, we often rearrange room assignments to avoid overcrowding. As a result, you may be placed in a different room than the one you initially reserved. Thank you for your understanding.

Q: Are refunds available?

R: The advance booking fee (first night stay) is non-refundable. After you check in and settle the remainder of your fee, no refunds will be issued except in rare cases, at the house parent's discretion.

Transportation & Location

Q: Is the hostel close to the ferry terminal or airport?

R: We are located in downtown Juneau, about 15 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from the ferry terminal. Transportation from the ferry terminal involves either a 1.5-mile walk along the highway to the nearest bus stop ($2.00 fare) or a taxi ride to downtown (about $45 fare). From the airport, there is an express bus on weekdays between 7am and 5pm, or you can take a taxi for about $35.

Q: Do you provide transportation?

R: Nope

Q: What if my flight is delayed and I can't make it in between check-in hours?

R: We are volunteers, and we have lives too. Unfortunately, if you cannot arrive during our check-in hours, we will be locking the door and going to bed. You’ll need to find alternative accommodation for the night. Feel free to visit us in the morning at 8 AM, and we’ll be happy to assist you then.

Q: What if my flight leaves before you open? Am I supposed to carry my luggage all day?

R: Please call or email us to discuss your situation.
